Janeliasoul Bio


With her exciting multi-cultural background, Nigerian-American singer and bandleader Janeliasoul, set out to charm listeners with her unique and charming melodies. Growing up in Nigeria Janeliasoul learned the local dialects and enjoys composing songs and singing in English, Pidgin and Yoruba. Now in the States, her latest single, Love-Hate, created some buzz in the independent music scene with over a million YouTube views.

Her band, also known as “Janeliasoul” is the only female-fronted world music band based in Baltimore, MD and the winner of Baltimore’s biggest battle of the band known as Sound-off Live. Her band fuses traditional Nigerian rhythms with contemporary sounds like soul and Jazz and is heavily influenced by world music artists Angelique Kidjo and Fela Kuti.

Her debut EP titled ‘Self-Affirmation Project’ released July 13, 2018 features 6 singles with affirmations all beginning with the words “I Am”. For instance, “I Am Bold” According to Janeliasoul, the inspiration for the album derives from using positive thinking  and self-affirmations to get away from negative self-talk. The first single ‘I Am Bold”, is an afrobeat track. Collectively, the album is a fusion of Nigerian rhythms combined with soul and jazz. Self affirmations are usually in form of spoken word. However, with this album, the listener can vocalize a series of self-affirmations musically. Janeliasoul is currently promoting her new EP and looking forward to spread her music and culture to new crowds and listeners!
